A young girl from the United States who was about to get married contacted me to make a request. The couple had been in Barcelona and her boyfriend had enjoyed eating some of the typical cakes of the city. She wanted to surprise him on their wedding day with a selection of these cakes, which were to be exactly the same, and she wanted me to send them to the USA in time for the wedding. However, due to the rigorous conditions that the American law imposes on the posting of food, there would have been a risk that the cakes would not arrive.
So I found an alternative. I sent all the possible details of the cakes by post to the USA. I then interviewed the pastry chef and found out the original recipe for the cake. I found a Spanish chef in the USA and sent him the recipe so that he could make the cakes to the exact recipe, with all the original material. I took great pleasure in receiving a photograph with his surprised face and her happy one. It is a memory that will always stay with me.
